Candle Burning Tips

The holiday season is in full swing and candles are a popular addition to the holiday decor. To get the most from your candle it is suggested that you keep the candle wick trimmed to about 1/4", and burn your candle until it melts all the way around the edge of the container, or if a pillar around the edge of the pillar. This will prevent the candle from burning unevenly, and tunneling (burning a hole through the middle of the candle).

It is also very important that candles burn in/on a proper container or plate. Never burn pillar or votive candles on your table or counter without placing them in a container or plate first. Always keep burning candles away from children, pets, and flammable items, and be sure that you are able to keep an eye on your candle. Never leave a candle burning unattended, not even to drive down the block to the store to pick up a much needed ingredient for that holiday favorite.

Say Yes To Palm Wax

Traditional candles are made using paraffin wax which is a petroleum based product. This is the reason the candle emits black soot into the air. If you burn these types of candles on a regular basis you should notice a black film on glass in the room, furniture, even the walls and ceiling, and around the interior of a candle jar. Recent studies have shown that breathing this emitted black soot over a period of time could lead to cancer.

What is a candle lover to do, stop burning candles? The answer is no. There are candles available that are made using natural wax. These candles burn cleaner while still providing everything you love about candles (the fragrance, décor, ambiance, and mood they create).

Beeswax comes from the wax produced from honey bees which use the wax to build honeycombs to store honey and pollen. Candles produced from this type of way is usually all natural in that dye and fragrance oils are typically not added to the wax, but the wax and candles are expensive compared to other type of natural wax candles available.

Soy wax is produced from soy bean crops. These candles have a creamy texture and appearance. However, the wax is soft because it has a low melting point which means that shipping could be an issue in certain weather conditions.

Palm wax is made from kernels harvested from palm trees. These kernels have some of the highest concentration of oil which means that more wax can be produced using less energy and space. In addition when the wax dries it is hard making it preferred to use for shipping. However, what makes palm wax more unique compared to the other types of natural wax is the appearance. Palm wax forms crystal structures when cooled. This can create a new look to your rooms décor and become a topic of conversation at gatherings.

We have worked with other types of wax and have come to the conclusion on our own that palm wax makes the best candles, and feel confident that if you try our palm wax candles you will feel the same way too.

Use votive candles in holders and place above the fireplace or arrange in the bathroom. Candle jars are a great addition to any kitchen.

What Is Palm Wax?

Palm wax is a sustainable, Earth-friendly resource produced from the oil of kernels harvested from palm trees. This seed has one of the highest contents of oil of any plant, meaning the wax can be produced with less energy and labor, and within a smaller amount of space than wax produced from plants sown in the field.

It is harder and has a higher melting point than the softer soy wax, making palm wax candles ideal for shipping in all weather conditions. This all natural wax also throws fragrances exceptionally well, and has a unique appearance not seen in other types of candles. As the wax slowly cools it crystallizes, forming crystal structures.

If you love candles we feel you are really going to love palm wax candles.
